Why only retrofit

Most home automation in India is sold to people building or gutting a house, because that is the easy version. The walls are open and anything is possible. It leaves out almost everybody, since almost everybody already lives somewhere.

Retrofit is harder to do well. It means working with the wiring an electrician chose fifteen years ago, in back boxes that are sometimes too shallow, on boards that sometimes have no neutral. It also means the job takes days rather than weeks, your family stays in the house, and if you ever sell up the whole thing comes out in an afternoon.

We think that is the version most people actually want, so it is the one we do.

The rules we design against

These are not marketing lines. They are the constraints we turn work down over.

Every wall switch keeps working. Press it and the light comes on, with no phone, no account and no internet. A touch panel counts as a wall switch. It is a physical control where your old switch was. What we will not build is a house where one tablet on one wall is the only way to turn on a light.

The house runs locally. Automations run on hardware inside your home wherever the products allow it. A broadband outage should cost you remote access from outside, not your lights, not your curtains and not your front door.

Standards first, and proprietary named as proprietary. Matter and Zigbee wherever a good product exists at a sane price, so a dead brand costs you one device rather than the whole house. Where we specify something proprietary, it says so on your design sheet along with what happens if that company disappears.

We say no to unsafe boards. If we open a switchboard and find something genuinely unsafe, we will tell you and decline to build on top of it. That is a different problem from a missing neutral and it gets treated differently.

We repair what we sell

The standard answer in this trade when a touch panel dies is that it goes back to the manufacturer and you live with a blank board for weeks. We run our own service bench in Jaipur, so most faults are diagnosed and turned around in days and a repair costs a fraction of a replacement panel.
